Instructions For Registration to Retain Vietnamese Citizenship

A. GENERAL REGULATIONS
1. Oversea Vietnamese residents in a foreign country who are not holding a valid Vietnamese passport need to register at the Embassy of Vietnam to retain their Vietnamese citizenship if they desire.
2. Registration procedure to retain Vietnamese citizenship should be completed before July 01st 2014. Later than this due date without registration or valid vietnamese passport, persons mentioned at point (1) will give up their Vietnamese citizenship.

B. PROCEDURES FOR REGISTRATION TO RETAIN VIETNAMESE CITIZENSHIP:

- The Biography form (click here for the form)
- A copy of one the following Vietnamese documents proving their vietnamese origin:
+ Birth Certificate;
+ Personal Identification;
+ Expired Vietnamese passport;
+ Decision granted by competent authorities Vietnamese Citizenship, the Decision to return for Vietnamese citizenship, the Decision on recognition of adoptions for children who are foreigners, the Decision to permit foreigners to adopt Vietnamese children.
- Fees: must be paid by MONEY ORDER or CASH to ‘EMBASSY OF VIETNAM”.
- A prepaid return envelope for those who apply by mail (services with tracking numbers are strongly recommended).
